Handwara, July 9: A tragic road accident claimed the life of a 56-year-old school headmaster in Handwara on Wednesday night, officials said.


According to officials, the accident occurred in the Younsu area of Handwara, where a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle. The victim was identified as Fayaz Ahmad Lone, a resident of Wahipora.


Officials said the headmaster sustained critical injuries in the accident and died at the scene before medical assistance could save him.


Police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident. Further details are awaited.


The incident has left the local community in shock, with many expressing grief over the loss of a respected educator who had been serving the education sector for many years.
