 Anantnag: A police constable was killed after gunshots were heard in the Lal Chowk area of south Kashmir's Anantnag district on Wednesday, officials said. An official told news agency— that the cop was injured in the firing incident was taken to a nearby hospital.  Meanwhile, hospital authorities confimed he was brought dead. The deceased has been identified as Ashiq Hussain.  The exact circumstances surrounding the firing incident were not immediately known.  Police have taken up the investigation, while entire area has been cordoned off with more reinforcements rushed to the spot— Report Arshed Ahmed Mir

The deceased was identified as Shabir Ahmad Paswal, a resident of Drang, Khag. According to officials, Shabir Ahmad was swept away after the water level in the nallah rose suddenly following incessant rainfall that triggered flash floods and overflowing streams across the district. A large-scale rescue operation was launched immediately after the incident by the civil administration, police and rescue agencies. Arshed Ahmed Mir  Rajouri, July 19 (GNS):Intense rainfall triggered flash floods and a cloudburst in multiple areas of Rajouri district on Sunday, causing widespread damage to property, vehicles and infrastructure. Officials told GNS that the Rajouri river entered Bela Colony, leading to flooding in the area. Several vehicles parked at Bela Bus Stand were washed away in the sudden surge of water. As per reports, multiple houses and families are trapped in Bela Colony. Loss of livestock has also been reported from Bela and adjoining areas. In Thanna Mandi Sub Division, flash floods affected Churung, Rajdhani and Behrote areas. Labourers working at a crusher unit in Behrote are reported to be trapped, officials said.  Kulgam Police Arrest Hit-and-Run Accused from Uttar Pradesh; Offending Vehicle Seized During Investigation Kulgam, 16 July 2026: Kulgam Police have achieved a major breakthrough in the investigation of the fatal hit-and-run case registered as FIR No. 176/2026 at Police Station Qazigund by arresting the accused from Uttar Pradesh and seizing the offending vehicle during the course of investigation. The case pertains to a road traffic accident that occurred on 10 July 2026 near KP Colony, Vessu, where an unidentified vehicle struck an 11-year-old girl. The injured child was immediately shifted to Government Medical College (GMC), Anantnag, for treatment but later succumbed to her injuries.
